Single Vineyard Viognier from Paul Mas
The Wine Review:
Another <$15 bottle for Wine Assignment #5, a French Viognier. The wine has a straw yellow colour and gives a floral aroma. The aroma also has attractive fruits, apricots, peaches, and melons with hints of grass. On the palate it’s one of those wines that does not quite match up with the nose. Instead of fresh fruit flavours, it feels a bit fat and flabby (a problem typical with Viogniers). This wine definitely performs better on the nose than on the palate. I am being a little harsh on the taste, but the aroma has you expecting so much more but ends up leaving you disappointed. For <$15 it is cheap enough to see if it’s your style, even if it’s not it has a great aroma and one could experiment with your own Viognier + Shiraz blend (sounds like an upcoming Wine Assignment!)
