Review: Yalumba – The Y Series Shiraz Viognier (2012)

The Y Series Shiraz Viognier from Yalumba

The Wine Review:

A clear crimson-red colour. Oaky and strong alcoholic (acetone-ish) nose, burns a little when sniffing. The Shiraz part is toned down but has hints of the plummy dark fruits. The Viognier part is practically invisible on the nose. I suspect there’s less than 2% Viognier here. On the palate it’s quite astringent. Not that balanced and the acidity sticks out and the Viognier doesn’t quite cover for it. A bit of a quoffer wine but then again it’s only a bit over $10.
